Airdrop: iPhone to Mac. Is the quality reduced/file compressed?

When using Airdrop from an iPhone to a Mac, is the picture or video you airdrop compressed/reduced before it is sent (similar to what iMessage does to the file)? Airdrop is super convenient for transferring the occasional pic this way and it would drive me crazy if it was

I've taken to using AirDrop after discovering that there was no loss in file size or picture quality. I have used email and did find a loss in file size & quality. AirDrop it is for me...

The files are transferred full-sized, from what I have seen. Makes no sense to compress them when there is no internet connection or data consumption involved.

It's super super finicky at times for me so don't get too depressed. Too many times it just refuses to see the device I am trying to send my file to (but sees others), despite allowing airdrop on both devices to see "Everyone" instead of just "Contacts Only". It has gotten more reliable "I guess" but it remains very picky and unreliable at times.

For me too! Alas I've tried so many tips I found everywhere but none works

Airdrop iOS to iOS works
Airdrop mac to mac works
Handoff iOS to Mac works

Airdrop iOS to Mac is a FAILURE!
It worked in Yosemite, what is wrong?!
