airdrop works differently on my 2 macs. when i send a file from my MBP, i open an airdrop window, drag a file to it; the MB beeps, i get a notification about the file... done.

but when i go from the MB to the pro... i have to open an airdrop window also on the pro, before i can copy to it.

anyone know why this would happen? both are on the same OS version...

I have had inconsistent behavior with Airdrop on both my 2014 MBP and my 2013 Air for a long time (ever since Yosemite IIRC). Sometimes I will have to open an Airdrop window, and sometimes I won't. It seems to be random. I have searched pretty extensively without finding much of an explanation.

I've always had to open the AirDrop window when dropping files to and from another Pro (pretty much all of my friends use MacBook Pros). It could be the behaviour of the Bluetooth visibility.

it seems that, since the final 10.12.4, i've had this behavior. before that, i had to have both macs with an open airdrop window. just odd that the 'older' mac works smarter than the new one (or i guess it could be that the older one doesn't recognize the newer behavior). anyway, will live with it (and perhaps torture apple directly at some point about it).

thanx for the responses!
