Airdrop woes

For starters, I've learned that Airdrop is wifi only. I'm sure for reasons I don't fully understand, but frustrating if you have 30 gb of files to move and you want a more reliable connection. I suppose it's in the name, but still.

Also when moving these large files, it will just stop maybe half way through, with a dialogue saying receiving Mac canceled. I'm using caffeine, so nothing goes to sleep. I remember in the past the receiving machine had to a approve the transfer, maybe that was mavericks, that doesn't seem to be the case this time.

What the heck is going on? How can I reliably transfer files?

Between to machines on the same network?

Share them with "File Sharing" in "Sharing" in System Properties.

Certainly more reliable than AirDrop

If you can do a direct connect via TB or firewire. Then do TDM on the machine to transfer from and copy files. Much faster than airdrop. Airdrop isnt for long messages. Its like the twitter of file transfer, short and quick.

Still not sure if Airdrop is the best protocol to send huge files, though.

I would rather use file sharing.

Thanks for the reminder about file sharing. It worked well. I'll have to figure out how to tweak the settings so it's not open to the public, but I should be ok for now.
