So for some reason Airdrop will not find my iPhone. My mac is on 10.10 Yosemite and my iPhone 5s is on iOS 8 and the two devices just can't find each other?

Same with handoff and personal hotspot my mac just seems like it can't detect my iPhone at all unless I plug in a lightning cable.

Anyone having any success getting these features working so far?

Thanks guys

Ethan

Your title seems like a "declaration" .. :)

Don't worry it will work across OSX 10.10 and iOS 7/8 .... might be issue with the betas for now...

I am having the same issues.

I started by doing a upgrade to my Macbook air mid 2012 and my iPhone5S GSM. Did not work.

I have now done clean install on both and still have the same issues.
Bluetooth is working on both devices as i can connect other devices to both of them via Bluetooth.

Hopefully they will come out with a update soon that will fix it . With out this working it takes a lot away from the new features of IOS8 and Yosemite.

If someone did have this problem but got it to work pls post the solution

None of Continuity features work on my iMac mid 2011 =(

Air Drop window says: "Air Drop with Older macs: on" and I can't change that

It works fine between my late 2013 15" rMBP and iPhone 5 without having to reinstall anything.

It seems like a lot of the continuity features are a hit or miss for people at the moment. For example, I don't receive phone calls on my mac, even though they are within inches of each other and on the same iCloud accounts.

It's hit or miss. It works on my nMac Pro6,1 on 10.10 and iPhone 5s on iOS 8.

Odd thing, I noticed a family member's iPad show on my Mac Pro, they're running iOS 7.1. I sent them a file from my Mac Pro, it worked. Don't ask me how.

Seems the best answer is that it's beta, and the first developer release. Next release should have many of these features ironed out for testing. :)

I just got mine working a moment ago, sluggishly though :( hopefully they'll seed it up in later DP's . Have you guys signed your Macs into your iCloud, after I signed up hand-off and continuity started working

I signed in and out a few times, but I cannot get hand-off/continuity to work between my 2013 Mac Pro and iPhone 5s. Both on the same network. I noticed on iOS 8 you cannot turn off/forget your Mac in Bluetooth preferences (never paired it either).

BTW, I sent the image via AirDrop to my Mac Pro, and noticed it has a black background now and worked perfectly.

Hopefully these issue will be ironed out in DP2 so we can start to see how these features actually perform in the wild.

I've also noticed black backdrops where they should be transparency, mainly appears after I've resized the window.

As others have said, it seems to be a little bit and miss which is to be expected. One thing I've noticed though. I've successful sent a pdf file from Adobe reader on my iPhone to my Mac. But if I try to reverse the process something odd happens. My Mac says it was successful and my iPhone vibrates but that's it. It's not in Reader, iBooks, Pages or any other app that likes pdf files! This is also the same with sending other types documents. Has anybody else experienced this? I'm sure this will be fixed in future releases but I just find it interesting.

I find Airdrop has been hit and miss in iOS 7 too. It works flawlessly between mine & my colleagues iPhones, but will not work between my iPhone and my iPad air.

That being said, I've managed to Airdrop a photo from my iPad to my mac without issue, and handoff also functions as it should. Hopefully it'll be more consistent than even iOS 7 once we hit the GM's.

When your iPhone receives it, does it ask which app to use? I may be mistaken, but I thought something like that came on screen when I sent a PDF to my iPhone.

Has anyone tried using iCloud Drive for document sharing (assuming it works)? Been a busy week, just catching up on everything and it's fun discussing it. :)

I actually don't get any notification at all not even asking me if I want to accept the file, it just sends.

You need to know which kext wifi uses, it can be done in terminal
Code:
kextstat | grep AirPort

AppleAirPortBrcm43224.kext = not work
AirPortBrcm4331.kext = not work
AirPortBrcm4360.kext = work!
AirPortAtheros40.kext = not work

If I recall correctly these new features all use specific bluetooth functionality which is only found in bluetooth 4.0 and up. If your device does not have bt4 it obviously won't work. Bluetooth in this case is used to detect the devices near it, wifi is then used to actually connect the devices and transfer data. I think that's also the reason why there is the option for "use AirDrop with older Macs". This will probably turn off the bluetooth-wifi thing that makes the OSX-iOS AirDrop tick. And then there are also the obvious bugs since these are the first public beta's.

Would you mind explaining this a bit more? I have an MBA 2011 and I get 4331 - does this mean AirDrop will never work? Or apple will bring out new drivers... or...? Thanks.

I dunno what we will see in release version of Yosemite, but at this moment all wifi drivers except AirPortBrcm4360.kext does not have "new" airdrop support. And they probably will not get it.

I have 4360, but it's not working for me. I have iOS 8 Beta 4 and Yosemite Public Beta. I can send files to my phone from Yosemite with no issue, but I can not send from the iPhone 5 to Yosemite.

On my desktop, I can see my iPhone in Air Drop. However, on my Phone, I just see the photo I selected with the message, "AirDrop. Share with people.." I've tried Contacts, Everyone and tried turning it off and back on.

Assuming this is a beta item.

Hi,

I have been just wandering for quite a night over the web to find out a solution to this particular issue (no mid-2012 mac visible in Airdrop on iOS).

So, I seem to have found it and must share it at least here:

the airdrop started working bidirectional for me after I had changed the following settings to "off" (or whatever it may be called in English version): system settings - network - bluetooth PAN - IPv4 configuration -> off.

If it works for you, please share further, because the problem seems very common with no solution readily offered.

This did not work for me. My IP5 will not see my MBP in the Airdrop screen.
