I have an iPhone 4S and whenever I use airplay to play music on my speakers connected to an airport express it causes my entire network to crash. My home network consists of one airport extreme and two airport express. I have an old ipod touch running 4.2.1 and it hasn't caused any problems.

Is this an iOS 5 issue, airport express issue, or iPhone 4S issue? Everything is updated to the newest software.

Anyone else having this problem?

Your "entire network crashes"? As in every other computer loses Internet? I do mirroring from my iPad 2 to my AppleTV and nothing else is effected, so not an IOS 5 bug I don't think.

Yeah, my entire network goes down. It's the strangest thing. The iPhone will play over my speaker anywhere from 30 second to 2 minutes and then it stops playing and the whole network crashes. I lose the airport extreme for a minute and then it reboots. I can't figure out what's causing it.

I just had a similar(ish) issue with Airport Extreme/iPhone 4S. AirPlay audio to the Apple TV saw both iPhones booted off the network, and they couldn't see it until the Airport Extreme was rebooted. The two of us then tried FaceTime, to see how it worked, and the entire network crashed. Given that the network was solid before today, with three other iOS devices, two Macs and an Apple TV, I'm not a happy bunny.

Network problem

Similar problem here.
I often use my iPad 2 to stream internet-video (deredactie.be in belgium) to my philips LCD-TV through an apple TV 2.
Since upgrading to iOS 5, I sometimes encounter a problem that ALL my devices (MBA, iPhone, iMac, ATV2, iPad 2) lose wireless connection:(. This always happens during AirPlay playback from the iPad 2.

(Network = Airport Extreme and 1 Airport Express)

Still haven't found a solution. Yesterday I reset network settings on my iPhone and then turned off the phone for a couple of minutes, and it appeared to work, but today my iPhone crashed the network again. I might give Apple a call. I have no idea what's causing the problem. I also use an old iPod touch running 4.XX for airplay and it hasn't crashed the network.

I have a similar problem

My iPhone 4s stops streaming music to my Airport Express after anytime from a few seconds to a few minutes.

The Airport Express then flashes with the amber light until I reboot it.

It will then work again for a few minutes and the same problem will happen again.

I can however stream to Airport Express from ITunes with no problems.
I can stream to Airport Express from my old Iphone 3gs with no problems.
My Iphone 4s streams to Apple TV with no problems.
Tunemark Internet Radio App streams from my Iphone 4s to Airport Express without problems

So it seems that the Music (formally Ipod) part of the Iphone 4s and my Airport Express are the problem!

Dropping Connection

Has anyone figured this out...it is driving me crazy. Everytime I connect my 4S to apple tv2 my network crashes and reboots. All devices loose connection until it reboots. Never fails the network is stable until I try mirroring. Any ideas?

I am seeing the same issue as well. Iphone 4s to my airport express works fine with Pandora and music App. My Airport express is my gateway to the the outside world.

I just got an iHome iW1. Played music from my 4S for like 1/2 a song and every single device (Roku, iPhones, Mac) was booted off the network. This happened multiple times with both Music App and Pandora. Switched to the Mac and everything worked fine both from iTunes and Airfoil.

Fixed

I have managed to resolve my issue by logging onto my Netgear router and changing the wireless security.

I changed it from WPA PSK (TKIP)

to

WPA2-PSK (AES) ..which is actually more secure.

I kept the same passphrase - so there was no need to change anything on my iPhone, Airport and ATV2

My iphone4s has been streaming to Airport Express without problems ever since.

Give it a try if your router is has the option!
