If I plug an ATV2 into my TV with HDMI, I'm guessing the TV must be on in order for me to hear any audio through external analogue speakers?

For me - I want to stream music through my lounge room but don't want to have to have my TV on all day long. My speakers are only RCA inputs/outputs.

Thoughts?

you kinda answered your own question.

solutions:
1. buy a new stereo
or
2. buy a DAC (digital to analog converter). they are expensive and cost as much as a new stereo
or
3. buy an aiport express. it has analog audio out.

Tv of course would have to be on to hear music from the built in speakers. If u have a receiver with optical input u may have audio even with the tv off.

Not sure if both HDMI and toslink output sound simultaneously.
