Some people (myself included) are mighty upset at Apple for failing to conspicuously advertise that Airplay does not work with macs running i3 processors.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer).
Where did they say it would? From Apple: http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/features.html
It's the HD3000/4000 GPU that's needed.
Is ridiculous that not too old MACS can't do the mirroring.
Want to know if they have at least one tech reason to not allow it.

The durability of macs was one of the reason to buy one on 2006. The advantage over the pc is that your mac can run perfectly 8 years from buying it.
On this OS is Airplay, on last was AirDrop.
Little things that they quit from old users.

No, it's a hardware h.264 encoder (sortof) in the processor that's needed, and an i3 doesn't have this.
Google 'Intel quick sync'.

Same thing, if its got HD3000/4000 its got an H.264 encoder.
So, you're saying Mountain Lion broke your Mac?
Airplay requires hardware h.264 encoding. You can see how well your Mac can do it in software only by using AirParrot. Many people are not too happy with the performance.
Apparently the previous computers can do it, but it might suck up a lot of the processor. Instead of giving you some warning about it, Apple just disabled it.
I wonder if someone will find a hack that would enable Airplay Mirroring on older processors as well.
