Hello... Does anyone have an idea how can I activate AirPlay mirroring on my iMac (early 2009). Running Mountain Lion. Do I have to enter anything specific into my Terminal?
Thanks!

You can't. Your machine is missing a piece of hardware. No Terminal command will magically put hardware into your iMac.

I'm hoping Apple makes older models work with AirPlay. I can AirPlay a movie from iTunes in 1080p to my Apple TV, but not the entire desktop? Makes no sense to me since it's basically projecting the image to the Apple TV.

The desktop is moron please because it has to take a much higher resolution image then a movie and it's already h264 encoded. The desktop must be resized to 1080 and encoded to h264. These two actions are CPU intensive if the hardware to do that isn't in the machine.
