Hi

I have a pair of Airpod 3 that is really loud at one dot after the minimum, to the point I can't stand any sounds that are not a meeting (alerts or systems sounds).

I don't know what's going on with this pair. I have another one that works normally. To make things even weirder, these airpods don't update themselves. I tried Apple support, but despite the serial number is recognized by Apple, they told me they cannot give me support because the airpods have been tampered. They don't say how or what have been tampered. I tried to reasoning with them, that the device is too small for me to open or try to inject any code on it to no avail.

I have a hunch that the firmware (initial one) is the cause of the problem. But maybe someone can give me another way to try to reduce the volume at least.

Thanks

One possibility is that they’re counterfeit, there are a TON of fake AirPods out there (they have a “Legit” serial, but it’s just duplicated across all of the fakes). Did you get a “Good deal” somewhere? That’s the first clue…
