Does the airpod max noise cancellation also work if I’m not listening to something? In other words, can I just put them on, turn on noise cancellation and drown out the rest of the world? Or would I have to also explictly put something on to listen to in order to get that effect?

.Thanks for the confirmation. That is what has put me over the top and I’m going to stop off at the Apple store on my way home from work tomorrow to get my pair.
