Ok, so when I set my Airpod Pros into the off position, take them out of my ears - when I take them out of the case and place them back in my ears, after about one second, they start cancelling some of the background noise. At this point they are still in 'off' mode. If I turn them on, they cancel more noise. Transparency mode works as advertised, but I don't seem to be able to get them to not cancel noise at all.

This happens every time I put them in my ears. Anyone else experiencing the same?

Since they go in your ear and are blocking your ear canal, I would guess they'll block some noise, even with nc turned off.

That's not what I'm talking about. As I stated in my post, one second AFTER I put them in, there's a distinct drop off in background noise. It's not happening as I put them in, but after.

So you put the Airpods in your ears and they block some background noise after a second? And then you turn on noice cancellation and they block even more noise?

Correct. You can hear a distinct drop off in background noise after a second. Press to turn noise cancellation on and it drops further. Cycle through to 'off' and it appears to turn off, but when you take them out and then replace them, the same thing happens again. After a second or so, some background noise is attenuated, over and above what the seal alone achieves. Happens every time.

I’m pretty sure there’s an option to allow NC with just one bud in your ear.

See if that’s enabled.

It only happens after I put the second bud in. Either way, the NC is turned off.
You have to turn on transparency mode. There is 3 modes, “noise cancellation”, “off” and “transparency mode”. Don’t turn everything off, the plastic ear tips are designed to block out sounds. When you turn on transparency mode it let’s all the sounds outside in. If you turn everything off it will block some noise just by design.

Please read my previous comments. I am aware that they attenuate noise even when turned off.
About one second after placing them into my ears (when they are turned off), the background noise level drops further than just passive attenuation. Turning them on then attenuates noise further again. In other words, there is some active attenuation, even when the setting is switched to 'off'. On works as expected; transparency works as expected.

Recent AirPods Pro user and I have noticed the exact same thing.

It seems there is no real "Off" mode. There is either full Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), partial ANC (which is considered "Off" on the device), and Transparency mode. Basically, I don't want "active" anything, I just want the headphones in my ears with no cancellation or transparency and there is no real "Off" option for this. Maybe there is a setting buried somewhere we don't know about?
