Hey!
I've always had this issue and I've posted about it before and haven't found a solution. I couldn't find my previous thread, but my right AirPod often isn't working. It's completely silent. The only solutions I've found is take both AirPods out of the ear several times till the left AirPod starts working as well or restoring my AirPods to factory settings. Then both of those work again for some time.
Anyone knows the solution?

1st generation AirPods came out in 2016, so you've done really well to have used them for nearly a decade! It might be time to get some new ones. If you prefer this style, they are still selling AirPods 2 at other retailers.

If you want to squeeze some extra life out of your current ones, you could look on eBay for a singular AirPod. I have done that in the past and it worked well until I upgraded to AirPods 3rd gen.

The Airpods not working could be a sensor issue. If cleaning them doesn't fix it, there is a way to turn it off in Settings so it doesn't detect when you put them in your ear. See if maybe that helps?
