I've changed the double-tap action for my left AirPod from "Previous track" to "Play/Pause" because quite frankly I rarely ever need to go back. The right Airpod I left at its default "Next track". Every now and then I find myself double-tapping the left AirPod only to discover that once again the double-tap action has magically reset itself from "Play/Pause" to "Next track". That's right, it does not reset to its default "Previous track" action but instead mirrors the right AirPod's double-tap action.

Any ideas what this could be? I haven't been able to discern any pattern yet as to when exactly that happens. I've only had my AirPods for less than four months and it has already happened twice this year alone.

If you ever hold down the reset button on the back it’ll reset your settings.

I also suspect that sometimes a firmware update to the AirPods or iOS will accidentally reset the settings.

Interesting, thank you. I don't recall holding the reset button on the back of the case but I do recall playing with the case and pressing the button. That should, however, reset the settings to "Previous track" and "Next track" instead of "Next track" and "Next track", shouldn't it?

Like I said, it's not an actualy reset reset. It's more like a half-a**ed semi-reset whereby it overwrites my customized setting for the left Airpod with the right Airpod's default setting.

This is a widely known issue with iOS 14. Currently no fix but they “are working on it.”
