What are your thoughts on the safety of AirPods v earbuds (for example, the Soundcore liberty air 2 which I am currently trialling)? Without understanding much of the science, I just feel that the latter could be more detrimental to ear health due to how far into the ear canal they need to be pushed. Naturally this emits a better sound but is it worth it?

And generally, has anyone compared the two and what are your thoughts? I am really torn at the moment as I would prefer the AirPods but the lack of sweat/water proofing is a concern (use them a lot running and in the gym), they are not as loud and just over double the price!

I have some JLab Executives and standard AirPods. Most of the time the AirPods are the better choice and have some really cool features. I especially bought them for books on tape and podcasts to listen to in bed because the style is much better to lay on. The JLab earbuds are better for exercise and activities like mowing. I can’t even hear the AirPods when I mow. Overall if I had to pick one it would be the AirPods.

As far as waterproof concerns, I live in a high humid high heat climate. Being wet is part of life here. Sweat, condensation haven’t bothered either.

I agree with much of that. Drawbacks of the AirPods for me are the lower volume, poor battery life (apple product with a poor battery - shock) and limited touch controls. That said, I do find them far more comfortable than earbuds being stuffed into my ear canal. The soundcore ones do have more pros though so may go to them, and they’re half the price!

Anyone tried BLVCK pods? Thoughts?
How are they allowed to produce such copies, they look exactly like AirPods?!

I use my Air Pods Pro for working from home (Google Meets, Zoom, etc) but I prefer my Jaybird Tarah Pro earbuds for working out (mostly cycling) as they fit more snug in my ears (my AirPods Pro will work their way loose after talking for awhile, especially if I am laughing) and I like being able to take one earbud out and let it hang around my neck, although the drawback with the Jaybirds of course is that they aren't true wireless as they have the cord that connects the two. The Jaybirds also have much better sound quality though, imo.

What are people’s thoughts on the water/sweat resistance of the AirPod pros? I am now considering trialling them as I wear them an awful lot for working out and running so I do have concerns about the lack of resistance of the AirPod 2. Is there much difference between ipx4 (AirPod pro) and ipx5 (liberty air 2)?

Also, I’ve been reading that the buds that fit directly into the ear canal (AirPod pro and liberty pro2) are actually safer due to the noise cancellation which means they don’t have to be turned up as loud. To me, anything that is pushed in closer to the eardrum seems more dangerous but I’ve no scientific basis for this!

I’m sure the pros are equal or better than the standard AirPods. I live in a subtropical climate and sweat/condensation is pretty much a constant in life. No issues so far.

Cool, so you’ve not even noticed many issues with sweat etc. with the standard AirPods? That’s encouraging and may sway me towards those given the lower price!

Only one way to find out and that is to try the AirPod pro so have ordered them and can do a comparison of the 3 tomorrow and finally make a decision.

A lot if running in hot weather or in the gym!!

Silicone v foam - I have no desire to buy anything in addition to the AirPods as they are so expensive. Presumably they come with silicone tips ?

I completely agree with the previous commentators. For work at home, just for a walk or watching a movie, AirPods 2 are perfect, but they do not completely cover the noise, which can interfere with extraneous sounds at work or in the car.

Airpod pro comes with silicone tips. Standard Air pods are built very similar in build to the corded earpods that come with iPhones.

Went for the pros in the end. Happy with the quality and the most comfortable I tried out of about 5 different brands.
