I bought 2nd generation Airpods a few weeks ago. I just noticed that on both earphones, in the same place, I have deep impacts.

These impacts were not there when I unpacked them and they never fell on the floor. However, I wonder if the case is the cause of these marks.

I can easily imagine that the closing of the case, so adjusted to the milimeter, could by dint of opening / closing damage the airpods.

Do you have a similar problem?

That's bad. I can't imagine doing that much damage without knowing it. Can you see damage to the case?

Mine do have the same scratches. After fiddling around a bit I came to the conclusion that this happens when I get them out of the case, then they might scratch on the metal part of the case. After some more fiddling I also came to the conclusion that I have always got them out the wrong way. I tried to hold the AirPod and move it upwards out of the case, but just put the finger behind the AirPod (basicaly inside the hole in the upper part of the case, and then just move the finger to the front and up a little bit, that way the AirPod comes out much easier, and without touching the metal part.

I learned the correct way thanks to MR:
