Received some Airpods 3 for Xmas but can't find a definitive answer as to what the charging indicator means ?

This article : https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207012 , suggests that an amber light means less than one full charge remains but that cannot be correct?!

Right now, when I open my case without the Airpods inside, the light is showing amber (which, in the article suggests 'an amber light means less than one full charge remains', BUT, on my battery widget on my iPhone 13 Pro, the case shows over half a charge left when I then place the Airpods back in the case and then briefly look at the widget....

So what does the amber light mean then because it clearly does not show 'less than one full charge remains'??!

?

Just checking you've not got the case plugged in? If so, amber just means it's charging and below 100%

If your AirPods are in your case and the lid is open, then the light shows the charge status of your AirPods. When your AirPods aren't in your case, the light shows the status of your case. Green means fully charged, and amber means less than one full charge remains.
