I have been using the AirPods 2 for years and years because as excited as I was about the AirPods 3, they immediately fell out of both ears and I'd never had an AirPod 2 come out before. I switched back to the AirPods 2 and accepted that they were my past and future.
I approached the AirPods 4 with much less excitement, but picked up a pair understanding that the design had changed yet again and they might fit. My sole question was whether they would stay in like the 2s or fall out like the 3s. Twenty-four hours in, I am very impressed! They have yet to fall out and the improvement in sound over the AirPod 2s is very necessary. I'm also very impressed with the ANC. It is astounding they can get the level of ANC they've achieved out of open-ear ear buds. The "lower volume while speaking" feature also works impressively well. There is the usual ear-suck that all ANC has, and the ANC isn't as good as my Bose over-ear headphones, but that is all to be expected. For what they are, I'm highly impressed. I will give it a few more sessions at the gym before making a final decision, but so far I'm optimistic that I'll finally be replacing my AirPod 2s and with a very significant upgrade!
No longer needing a lightning cable (AirPod 2) and being able to wireless charge the case are also a huge pluses!
