Was on a 10 minute call with Apple yesterday. They suggested to test the Airpods overnight by removing them from the case (when both are at 100%) & leaving them & the case unplugged during this time, & if their battery falls to ~90% or less, then it confirms they're severely depleted & it's recommend to then take them into an Apple Store.

(Airpods dropped from 100% to 75% during that call btw).

Tests completed...

Woke up to find both Airpods at 64%! Case was still at 100%.

Popped Airpods back in case & they jumped to 96% instantly.

So, the Airpods are giving a false 100% reading & may only have 64% of realistic charge in them.

The case may also be giving a false 100% reading, but I'm not sure on that right now.

Anyway, I'll be taking them into an Apple Store to see what they can do.

I've had them since launch fyi, so 1 year, 10 months.

So if anyone else is having doubts over their Airpods batteries, give this basic test a go to see how much actual charge they have.

Great service from the Apple Store...had both Airpods replaced this morning. The case was fine so I've held onto it.

Australian Consumer Law states that 2 years is a resonable warranty term for the Airpods, so we're able to swap them over before then at no cost. Not sure how it is in the US, but I was told there's no Consumer Law there, however iirc US people on MacRumours have said they've had their Airpods replaced at no cost also. Whether that was within 1 or 2 years of purchase, I'm not sure.

Anyway, very happy with Apple's service again...this is what we pay the big bucks for.:D
