Hey everyone,

I noticed that my AirPods Pro 2 (same thing with the previous version) charging case stays hot while wireless charging and CONTINUES TO STAY HOT, even after it reaches 100%... only stops when I removed it from charging. I'm afraid that is damaging the battery, since it seems that's always charging... Do you experience the same?
Shouldn't an expensive equipment like this, be able to stop receiving charge (and producing heat), when it's fully charged???

Appreciate your feedback!

All wireless charging on all the AirPods models featuring wireless charging get hot and stay hot when sitting on a Qi mat or using magsafe.

I've tested this on both AirPods 2nd Gen, AirPods 3, APP 1 and APP 2nd Gen.

Whether or not this is damaging them significantly more than when you do wired charging, I have no clue.

But APP 1 and AirPods 2nd Gen have been getting and staying hot during wireless charging since day 1.

So I wouldn't expect it to be different on newer models, or for this to be something fixable.

Wireless charging makes all devices somewhat or very hot. I think the difference is how small the AirPods case is vs. something like an iPhone, so the heat doesn't have as large an area to immediately dissipate into on AirPods cases.

In my experience with official MagSafe pucks & 3rd party wireless chargers, I found the official Apple puck to leave the AirPods Pro case only slightly warm once it reaches 100%.

But I had one 3rd party 2-in-1 charger, where the case would remain noticeably hot, even after reaching 100%. This concerned me as the 3rd party charger was rated lower than the MagSafe puck, so I stopped using the 3rd party charger & switched to MagSafe full time (when going wireless).

They should have a function when it stops receiving power (and so producing heat), once the device reacher 100% of power. Specially since we can't substitute AirPods Pro battery and we can't afford any "damage" on it...

My APP1 have spent probably 80% of their lives on a Qi charger (didn’t buy them at launch, but certainly over a year ago - I only use them on weekends, so they spend all week just chilling - or cooking? - on the charger). They’re in a tether case so the heat isn’t as noticeable, but I just popped ‘em out of the case and sure, it feels a bit warm. They worked well for me last weekend, though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anecdotal, for sure, but I’m not experiencing problems with it.
