I've had my AirPods since launch and I noticed something today. Even with the case closed, when I am charging them, I can see the case and AirPods charging indicator and battery % on my phone widget. Is that a new thing or has it always been like that?

Thanks

When you pull down on the top menu (Under the date), it will show you your battery percentage for the AirPods and battery case.

Thanks but I don't know what you mean. I was saying that when my AirPods are charging in their case and with it closed, I am now able to see them charging on my battery widget on my iPhone. Before, I could not see any battery status of the AirPods of any kind when they were in the case and it was closed.

Interesting. I see the same thing on my 10.5" iPad Pro but only if the case itself is plugged in and charging. I don't recall seeing that previously but I don't know that I ever looked while the case was charging.

Edit: The battery status comes and goes while the case is charging - it shows for a while then goes away, then it returns, and keeps cycling in the widget.

Does the battery percentage continue to rise if you don't open the case?
I'm thinking it may be a bug where the info is frozen in the widget.

Just tested it on my iPhone....if I lock the iPhone (sleep), then unlock it, the widget refreshes & the Airpods charge status disappears.

The iPad's widget doesn't retain the battery status at all, even before locking.

Are both Airpods charging? I've had this happen when one wasn't, and if I re-seated it in the case, it would all unify into a single charging status. Then, since the case lid is closed, eventually the status goes away.

Thanks for the replies. I should of been clearer that this happens with the AirPod case itself is charging. Both airpods inside, lid closed, case plugged in.

Maybe it’s a feature to do with AirPower. So you can see the status of your airpods and case as they charge.
