When I pair my AirPods Second Generation with my iphone 12 the quality is fantastic even on calls. The stability is perfect.

When I pair my AirPods with my early 2013 retina, the reverse is true. As soon as the microphone is enabled the codec drops to SCO and the stability of the bluetooth connection is so poor that they frequently disconnect. The issue seems to be universal with other mac issues. Apple merely tell me that my computer is not compatible.

If I were to purchase a bluetooth 5.0 usb dongle would this resolve the issue in as much as will the connection:

A. Be stable?
B. Allow for a high quality codec even when using the mic?

Thank you
