I have seen mixed reviews and was wondering if they are a good "desk" option. Another words will they hurt my ears just sitting still all day at a desk?

If someone can compare to the Bose line "Soundsport" which are about the most comfortable pair I have used yet.

SoundSports are very comfortable with the silicone. I find the AirPods nearly as comfortable; I think the common factor for both is that they don't seal the canal, so the pressure associated with a sealed canal is absent. If you're not used to absence of a seal, you may find yourself trying to jam the AirPods in too deep, which can be uncomfortable (personal experience), but once you find the right position (it doesn't seal, just sits lightly pointing towards your canals), it's comfortable for hours at a time. If you have EarPods around, given them a try.

Writing this as someone for whom EarPods didn't work (they sat, but got pulled out by the cord).

Mine have been pretty uncomfortable, even causing sores in my ears. I've started to get more used to them and I'm hoping that my ears "toughen up". I'm working with Apple about the issue but do not have much hope that anything will be done other than they suggest I return them. My follow up calls and e-mails have went unanswered from the "senior" specialist that called me when I initially complained to @applesupport on twitter. I promptly got a call that night but that has been it. Here are the pictures I sent to Apple of my ears.

Depends on your ears, but if the wired Apple Earpods are comfortable to you, the Airpods will likely be too. Personally I find them very comfortable (almost to the point that I forget they are there). They feel very "light" to me, which is partly because they are ;) and partly because they are "open" earbuds that don't create a seal (which has pros and cons). They should be good for desk work as long as it's not a noisy environment.

If they don't fit your ear comfortably, they don't. How can the Apple staff do anything?

That was my question, however they wanted to open up a case, which they did. I simply posted on twitter that they were "eating my ears". Apple support insisted on setting up a case and handed it to a senior advisor. I said the same thing during our conversations.

I think it goes beyond them not fitting, the fact that they are causing sores in his ears should be of interest to Apple. imagine the P.R. disaster if that becomes a widespread issue with many users... I imagine they want to investigate and see if its an isolated case due to his particular ear type or something that can affect others.

I just got my AirPods in today and I also work in an office and they have been very comfortable and so much more convenient than the traditional earpods. I didn't realize how much I needed these until I tried them out today! As far as comfort level goes, if you like the earpod fit then I believe you will like these just as well. I personally cannot tell the difference although I see a lot of people saying they fit better and a few say they fit worse than traditional earpods, but they are the exact same design I don't really see how it can be a huge difference. But for office use I would highly recommend these! I can walk to the copier and pretty much anywhere else and leave my phone at my desk and not think twice about having to pick my phone up to take it with me.

Some of your comments are incorrect. They're not the 'exact same design'. AirPods tails are considerably thicker than EarPods. For me, this assists in holding them in more securely.

*roll eyes* ear canals are fairly small, intricate parts of the human body. Many people have different sizes and shapes... so yes *roll eyes* a fraction of a millimetre might have an impact *roll eyes*. Jesus, I feel like I'm twelve again with all of this *roll eyes* crap.

The roll eyes this was sarcasm for those nations that don't understand it.

Perhaps grow up and engage in adult conversation in the correct context?

Excuse me internet stranger sorry for not taking you more seriously. My point was if EarPods fit you you have about a 99% chance that AirPods will also fit you.

I am having this exact issue. We must be relatives because our ears look the same. I'm curious to know if you ever found a solution. I was looking at Earbuddyz or Earskinz but I don't know if it will fix the issue. My old Beats buds were very comfortable. I opted for the AirPods because of the no wires appeal, but they hurt my ear if used for any length of time even with adjusting them every so often.

Funny you ask this...I just spent an hour at my desk listen to music at a level that if someone were to walk into my office I could hear them and I have a wicked headache. I finally gave in because the pain in my ears outweighed the ability to listen to music. Super disappointed. I would love to find something that "softens" the Airpods while in your ears.

It depends on the shape of the ear. AirPods fit perfectly in my ears. Maybe I have big ears too, since I’m a big guy but sometimes I even forget I have them on.

My friend tried them, they sit perfectly on his right ear but not on the left. It’s actually funny how bad they fit in his left ear. You can see the EarPod sticking out. lol

I have the Bose SoundSports and I ended up buying Airpods after trying my wife's - the Airpods are more comfortable to me. I tried different sized ear pieces for the Bose but no matter what, after some time my ears start to hurt. Not so with the Airpods but as others have noted, earbud fit and comfort is a very personal preference.

[doublepost=1525991437][/doublepost]The airpods also hurt my ears and cause sores from the friction. I love the quality, functionality, and lightness of the airpods. I forget I have them on once they are in the ear, but getting them in and out is when I notice the discomfort and feel the scab that has developed. I've had mine only a couple of weeks.

I actually like that I can have one in or the other, and give my ears a rest when I am using them. With my backbeat fits, I’d sometimes have both ears hurting after having them in for too long, and they also fit very well.
