Every time I open my AirPods, it is telling me I need to pair them with my device - I have to hold down the button on the back to connect.

I’ve been switching back and forth between my iPhone 7+ (10.3.3) and a new 12.9 iPad Pro (iOS 11 beta) and I thought that maybe the iOS 11 had something to do with it. However, I just got off a call on my iPhone that I was using the AirPods for. As soon as I put them in the case, my phone started telling me I needed to pair them again.

Anyone else having this issue? Think it’s a software glitch? Or do I need to see if I can get them replaced?

The issue sounds software related. I would go in to your iPhone settings, select Bluetooth and forget this device. Then create a re-pair with your AirPods and iPhone. I can't speak for the beta on your iPad.

Can you revert back to a non-beta IOS for your iPad to see if the Beta is somehow causing this?

I honestly didn't consider selecting to forget the device.. I've done that and will see how it works.

I would like to avoid that.. it's kind of frustrating, but i can live with it. I did pull the beta 4 yesterday and went on and made sure I unpaired the AirPods.. will see if it happens again.
