So i know the general answer here is that you can't update your airpods firmware manually, but I've had mine for about a month now and they are still running what I understand is a pretty old version, 2A364. The hardware version is 1.0.0, model number A2031. I've tried the trick that supposedly works, where you plug the case into the power, put the airpods in, and leave the lid open, with the iphone nearby and paired to it overnight, and it still didn't update. Any tips? Should I keep doing that same thing, or something else? Or just wait? Obviously it's been a month now of 'normal' charging and use, without an update. Thanks!

Still no update almost a week later. Maybe there is no update for these? I don't get it otherwise...

Have you hard reset both the AirPods & iPhone? & made sure they’re both connected to the same wifi network?

Might have to try Apple Support.

Why would Airpods connect to WiFi?
Sorry, was thinking loopy. I meant make sure the device they're paired to is connected to a WIFI network.

Apple Support should hopefully go through some helpful troubleshooting with you if they still don't update on their own.

No worries! I tried updating the firmware but it doesn’t work either regardless or whether the lid’s open or closed. On top of that randomly one of the buds disconnects and it’s a mess with one of them in transparency mode and another one in ANC. They really suck!

don't worry 2A364 is the latest updates for AirPods 2, my friend bought yesterday at Apple Store they were on 1A691 and after half an hour they were updated on 2A364, 2C54 was discontinued and for airpods 2

Others are saying 2B588 is the latest?

I really have a hard time believing that the lid has to be open to update the firmware. if that was really true, wouldn't MOST peoples' (who didn't read the internetz) never update? The case is very hard to keep open unless you are really trying to do it, so it's hard to see how an open case could be the requirement for a firmware upgrade.

Ah, well that would explain it, if true. Any confirmation of that fact?

It kinda makes sense considering the fact that they get disconnected when you close the lid. And keeping the lid open is a PitA.
It was my first day with the AirPods so Google is my teacher.

Hard to say, google is vague and depending on what the update includes certain AirPods maybe excluded due to not needing the update. For example if the update was for wireless charging case update the gen 2 without wireless charging might not get it.

My AirPods Gen 1 are 6.8.8
My AirPods Gen 2 w/o wireless charging are 2A364

The Gen 2 w/ wireless charging and Pros might be the the 2Cxxx update.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it there is no feature set for the update anyway.
