With Airpods inserted but nothing playing the Airpods do not remember volume setting like regular Lightning cable Earpods (or 3.5mm Earpods). Instead it uses the iPhones speaker volume preset which for me is MAX. As alerts come in my ears get blasted by the max volume alerts. I've sent feed back and scheduled an appointment so that the issue get documented with the dev team.
I'm surprised more people aren't complaining about this.
To reproduce this:
Settings> Sounds>(Max Volume)& Change Vol w/ Buttons Off.
Insert Airpods> get tone.
Send yourself a txt or email and the alert comes in at max volume.
These same steps with Lightning Earpods do not do this. The iPhone recognizes the different volume setting of these.
What I would expect the behavior of the Airpods to be is when I insert them and adjust the volume that all sounds come in at that volume setting.
