AirPods max 3.5mm

Is it confirmed the 3.5mm to lightening connector won’t work with these?
If I was buying a set of expensive headphones I would really want to be able to use them on flights with an adaptor. Seems like a huge oversight for a product like this if they can’t connect to 3.5mm.

I’m curious about this as well but in most cases the mic doesn’t work which is my fear.

Another concern is whether the lightning audio output is converted to analogue at the cup and not in the lead. I presume it is.
