I want to use my PS5 with audio coming through my AirPods Max

I recently bought a third party (male to male) Lightning to 3.5mm cable to connect my AirPods Max to the PS5 controller's 3.5mm headphone port. The brand is UGREEN. I have used their cables before, but this is the first time I've tried their Lightning to 3.5mm cable. Numerous forum posts via google suggest that connecting any headphones (including AirPods Max) via cable to the controller should work fine.

I'm getting no sound at all.

I've gone to the output settings in the PS5 menu and the console is detecting that I have headphones plugged into the PS5 controller as it allows me to adjust settings. Tried resetting, unplugging, switching audio inputs back and forth, but no joy.

Any ideas as to what the problem is?

Could it be that I'm using a third party cable and not Apple's official Lightning to 3.5mm cable?

Should have used the search function on here before posting

Found a similar thread from January with the same issue (using the same cable!)

I’ve read at many places that only the official cable would work for AirPods Max, due to the DAC converter in the official cable. I can tell that it works on my PS5 controller but I have the official cable. I did not try with a third party cable so I cannot not tell if the issue is specifically the UGREEN one.

Also, don’t know if you’re aware but wired airpods max is only for listening, the mics won’t work

Mine also works fine with the apple cable. No changes to settings needed. Plugged it in and it worked automatically. Might have to bite the bullet and give apple their $35.

Gone ahead and bought the official cable. £35 here in the UK which seems ridiculously overpriced. Heard its pretty flimsy too with a really thin cable. Kinda irritating that this wasn't included with the APMs.
