Recently (within the hour) taken delivery of Airpods Max - took them out of the box, connected flawlessly to my iPhone (as you would expect), played some music, some video and overall very impressed.

The sound quality is superb, spatial audio worked really well on a Mandalorian episode I watched, comfortable (if a little heavy at first). Thought I'd get stuck in to some work and have them on to test out an hour or two of continuous use. Popped them back in the case, made a coffee, came to take them out of the case and now won't automatically pair with my iPhone.

Figured it was strange, but selected them within the bluetooth menu in Settings - error message "cannot connect, make sure Airpods are nearby" - popped them back in the case, did a reset of the Airpods Max and figured I'd repair - but no luck, just red exclamation mark.

Soft reset iPhone (maybe something to do with the iOS update) no luck.

Isolated device issue, thought I'd pair instead to my Mac (nope), iPad (nope) all the same issue.

So now I have them plugged into charge in the hope that they will magically fix themselves.

So after a great 30 mins of use, that has now worn off very quickly and off to a disappointing start. Uh-Oh!

UPDATE: after leaving on charge for 45 mins - issue seems to have resolved itself. Technology is a strange beast. If anyone else gets this issue - stay calm, carry on.

When the AirPods Pro were brand new and hard to obtain I had a pair of duds arrive - completely unresponsive to pairing.

The Best Buy rep was surprised since that was the first defective pair she saw.

These are my first over-heads (this or the Sony's shock!) and I'm lucky I had no issues with any of the other Airpods.

I'm guessing it is just teething issues, but fortunate we have christmas returns. Fingers are crossed they sort themselves out.

I had something weird yesterday with mine. I was in a noisy foodcourt and was using them and they blocked the noise out really well! Suddenly though it was like the right earcup was letting the sound come through. If I sort of turned my head to the right, the extra noise would disappear but straight on the noise would be let back in. Hope I don't have a dud pair. Will have to try them out again in a noisy area.

I had the right ear noise cancelling go out on my set. Went through Apple Support and ended up doing a return... No replacements available. Later learned, from another forum, about a simple factory reset process. The person that posted had the same issue and a reset fixed it. Support didn't suggest it so I guess they are still learning the new product. Probably would have corrected mine. Give a factory reset a shot if you have more problems.

I had basically the same thing happen. The right ear cup stopped working entirely. Wouldn’t change modes or play audio. Put them back in the case and took it back out and it was fine after.

I am having Connection Failed with mine. I factory reset everything and its the same. Not playing any music or anything. But the LED light still works. Waiting for Apple to send me a box to send for repair. It is really not on for the cost but goodwill and Apple are two words that never mix!
