Just got AirPods Max just over a week ago now and have been noticing at the slightest touch or movement of the ear cups, that they will completely disconnect from whichever device they're connected to. Firmware immediately updated to 5B59 when I got them last week and plugged them in to charge. I also have AirPod Pros 2 and AirPods 3 and this does not happen with them at all. Those models have not updated to the new firmware and are on 5B58. I have turned off automatic head detection as I saw that might be a cause but it doesn't seem to help.

Edit: I just coughed slightly and it disconnected...

Sometimes if I just move my head, one ear cup (usually the left) will keep playing without the right playing and then disconnect and then reconnect on its own but then I have to go press play again on the device it was connected to. Other times, it will just disconnect completely and same process, it will eventually re connect to that device and I have to manually press play again.

It is very frustrating to say the least that these $700 CAD headphones will just disconnect on the slightest movement on my head.

Anyone else having this problem? I have searched forums and Apple Support forum and have factory reset the AirPods Max and have deleted from Find My as well and re paired following that.

Any advise much appreciate before I attempt to return this unit and try another one. I did purchase Apple Care+ for them, which I normally only do for my Apple Watch.

Realized that when they disconnect because of a touch of the ear cup or headband movement, I have to either open the Music app on my phone, iPad or Mac for it to initialize it's reconnection itself. Especially if it has just gone to one ear (left) playing music.

Edit: And even then it doesn't alway reconnect itself. But if it does, I still have to go in the Music app on whatever device and press play again, and usually it has lost my place in the playlist or set of songs I'm listening to.

iMessaged with Apple Support and they were super helpful! Since I've only had the AirPods Max for just over 7 days and I do not have an Apple Store in my city or within a drive (ferry + drive....If you're in in BC, Canada you understand Victoria to Vancouver, BC = expensive!). She arranged for express replacement with a hold on my CC, which is totally fine. Just happy to hopefully have the issue resolved.

Although if others have been experiencing this, please do comment as it would be nice to know and for others to know if they are experiencing this too.

Same here. I send my headphone for repair because of this problem. I got my new return unit today and it is doing the same thing

I received my replacement pair last week and they are all good now. No issues with slightly touching them and they actually stop playing when I take them off my head.
