Recently my Airpods Max started experiencing very weird issues. The main issue is that it seems to be turned off whenever I put it on "even if I had just taken it off", and noise cancelling/transparency is off, no buttons work, doesn't show up in Bluetooth. To get it working, I have to hard restart it every time by holding both buttons for 10 seconds, then it would connect normally.

Another aspect of the issue is that when I put it in its cases, it keeps connecting/disconnecting to my Apple TV on its own. Also, the battery seems to be draining faster than normal, though this isn't for sure.

I tried resetting it to factory settings multiple times, and also tried forgetting the device and adding it again, but the issue persists. I am also running latest firmware/software on everything, not on beta.

Anyone else experiencing this or knows of a solution? I am pretty sure this is a software issue, not hardware.

Are you storing them in the original case or sleeve? I’ve heard some problems are caused by third-party cases.

That’s the only thing I could think of. Perhaps take them to the Apple Store and have them take a look. Even if they’re not under AppleCare or the original warranty, they might still be able to help. Maybe they have a different way to reset them to factory but that’s just me speculating.

No I'm using the original case. I guess if I'm the only one facing this issue, then I'd take them to the Apple Store. Just thought I'd ask in case someone else was facing the same thing, then it may be caused by the latest firmware.

The only issue I’ve had is sometimes they will become unresponsive till I plug them in. I’m guessing they go into some sort of deep sleep. They will still have battery, but just won’t do anything till I connect them to a lightning cable. Once I plug them in for a few seconds, then they turn on and everything is fine. It’s just annoying because if I forget to do that and I’m out somewhere without a charger they’re useless.

Maybe someone else has the same issue you have though. I would give it a day or so just to see if someone else responds.

I use a case from Waterfield for my AirPod Max as I wanted more protection when I carry them in my rucksack.
I do occasionally experience them not waking up when i take them out and put them on.
Sometimes I need to put them back in the case and take them out again for them to fully waked up.
The cse has the magnets to enable sleep etc, and I just assume that occasionally some kind of deep sleep happens.

It is irritating but I forgive as they sound so good and are very comfortable.

I can confirm that the battery is definitely draining a lot while in the case, probably just as they were being use. Once they are off or in the case they go into some deep sleep.

Seems like a very odd software issue with no way to fix it.

From previous experience, if I take it to the app store and a reset doesn't fix it, they'll just say they can't do anything without a replacement program "like the one for the original pros".
