In terms of the battery life span? Before that 20 hour quote has eroded to significantly less? I really haven’t read articles about projections of the lifespan.

I have a pair of wireless astros that with moderate adaily use started to erode after 18 months or so. My AirPods 1 only last about an hr now after a couple of years or very light use. They’re almost useless now. With the Astro’s it wasn’t much to replace the battery yourself if you are half way decent with a soldering iron. My beats are lightly used and still hold a decent charge after a couple of years.

For 550 I don’t want short term disposal tech. I see Apple will replace service the batter for 80 bucks out of warranty. But I’d like to be able to have a decent charge for 3-5 years.

I know that’s the nature of these batteries and I suppose I could replace them myself.

Any predictions with moderate daily use? I will start to air travel a lot more soon for work and wanted to pickup a pair.

The batteries used in Apple products tend to last a long time before the power per charge starts degrading. The batteries should still be pretty good in three years even with daily use for hours. I am not concerned about the battery as long as it is possible to replace it either by using AppleCare or a proper Apple repair business.

Normally I sell my Apple products whilst I can still get good money for them and I pay a smaller amount to upgrade to the new version. That way I avoid having to pay for new batteries etc down the line. I would expect the Airpods Max to hold their value better than other headphones because they are more desirable. It will be interesting to see how often Apple brings out a new version of the Airpods Max. Hopefully they will be around for years because I really don’t like headphones like normal Airpods at all because I would be constantly concerned about losing them. I have always preferred over ear headphones and find them more comfortable.

I hope you enjoy your Airpods Max if you get a pair they are fantastic. Definitely get AppleCare for them if possible.
