Got the AirPods max yesterday they are amazing but they hurt around my ears after a while because the ear cushions are fairly narrow and VERY firm not very plush and soft. I have had other headphones where the cushion got softer after many months. Does the same thing happen with AirPods max? Hopefully they will get softer with constant use

Yes. In fact, I wish they didn't soften up as much as they do. Already thinking about replacing them with new ones. I can feel my right ear top the inside of the cup more often now that they softened.

I wonder if there are going to be any "High End" ear cups from other companies. In the mid-fi to high-fi world of headphones something usually show up.

I can’t say I notice a difference with mine. I do wash them weekly

Would love to have different material choices, although I believe that leather will not be an upgrade over fabric. Something like alcantara would be sweet

Leather is soft and natural -> this is good for my delicate skin. Best ones for softness : bang and olufsen headphones. Hope Apple give us a choice to go over plastic, maybe for AirPods Max 2. Hope so.

I’m surprised there aren’t aftermarket cups in different materials/colors.

$550 agrees with you, sadly.

Failed product niche? Hope not.

the pain was unbearable. ended up returning them, sad because the sound was amazing. but if i wore them for more than 30 minutes, i would have pain below my ear/top of jaw for hours after taking them off
