AirPods microphones do not work with third party apps

I just noticed that the mics on the AirPods do not work with third party applications like Whatsapp (voice note), Instagram (video), Snapchat (video/voice note), etc. and only works with Apple's own apps: phone, iMessage, camera and voice memos (haven't tried with GarageBand).

That could be...I don't have one...but you have you checked your Settings>Privacy>Microphone for those particular apps? If your built-in mic, wired headphones or other bluetooth devices are working with those apps then it would seem that something is odd.

No options to choose which mic. I covered the mics (bottom and back) on my iPhone 7 while AirPods were connected and tried to record a video/voice note and there was no sound... that's how I found out about them not working with 3rd party apps.
