If green means charged then why doesn't it say 100% on case and earphones?
New out of the box obviously they are not 100%, but Apple support site says green is charged?

I've paired them to my iPhone and it shows the percentages of case and earphones on the phone, neither are full or at anywhere near 100%, but when I'm using them the empty case shows a green light, which on a search says it means it's fully charged. But neither case or earphones are. Any idea please? Also, leaving them in the case all the time I assume is the norm, but don't they every get overcharged or quite warm? Nothing written in the instructions it comes with,

Speaking of which, the sheet in there is about iOS 10. Are these like really old stock or do they all come with that sheet still? Anyone get them with iOS 11 instruction sheet?

Thanks

All I can say is that they don't overcharge - the case knows to stop charging them when they're 100%. You should always leave them in the case when not in use, not only to charge them, but to prevent you from losing them.

As for the green light when not at 100%, something's not right. Have you taken them out & reinserted them?

Thanks for the reply. Not the buds, it says on Apple site if case is constant green light when they’re not in there the ‘case’ is fully charged. But it’s not.

If the case is empty green light means the case has enough charge to charge both AirPods from 0% to 100%. When the charge level is below that the light will turn amber.

How are you determining it’s not fully charged?

From the percentage it shows on the phone, but I think Apple's site has the wrong info, looking at your replies

If the case is empty green light means the case has enough charge to charge both AirPods from 0% to 100%. When the charge level is below that the light will turn amber.

Thanks, that explains it better than their own site does. It says if the phones are not in the case and case shows green light, it's charged. Which wrongly implies it's 'fully charged', But it just means there's enough charge on it to charge up the pods, and it's not 'fully' charged.

Now does anyone know if the paperwork enclosed has been updated after a year to say iOS 11, or if they still ship with enclosed iOS 10 paperwork.

Yeh, was just curious to know if the fact the set-up instructions enclosed that are headed iOS10 have been updated with a new print for iOS11, and the new pair I picked up yesterday have been laying on a shelf for a year since 11 was released. Just wondered. Assume that even if they are it shouldn't limit the life of them.

They all say iOS10. The instructions are referring to the set up procedure with Apple devices running iOS10 or newer. If you don’t run iOS10 or it’s not an Apple device, flip the introductions and it has the process for these instances

Thanks, I wasn't bothered about the instructions for the set-up, I just wondered if it was just old stock, as you would have thought in the last year the print would have been updated to say 11 as the main header. But what you're saying is that print hasn't changed in over two years since their launch.

Yes, basically they are saying you need to have iOS10 or newer to have the AirPods self setup when you place them next to your device and open the lid. If your running iOS9 for instance, they won’t do that. You can still pair them but, self setup won’t work. If they changed the literature to say iOS11 it wouldn’t make sense because iOS10 is the minimum necessary to perform the self setup. AirPods use there own firmware not iOS. I guess what I’m saying is they will always say iOS10 even when AirPod2 come out.

Thanks so much for clearing that up, It probably would have bugged me if I thought they'd found a pair from 18 months ago to sell me....!

If you remember, they were flying off the shelves so fast that you couldn’t even get a pair without waiting weeks. I doubt there are any Airpods in stores now that older than 4-5 months. Enjoy them!

I wasn't even actually aware of that fact if I'm honest, Assume it was the same in London, but you think to yourself maybe they're returns and that was why they had iOS10 paperwork in them, but after what you said, obviously that has now cleared that iOS10 header thing up, but I think they're far better than I thought they'd be, and what I was led to believe versus the Beats. Thanks again for that!

Thanks, I get that, I plugged in for first case charge today and went amber, but strange that it will go green before you reach fully charged on case. I would have thought the amber would stay amber till 100% so you know it's cooked. No biggie tho

Hey guys, I just got my Airpods a week ago. Great product that I wish I had bought earlier, and I love the ease of pairing with Apple products.

One question: When plugging the Case to charge, how do you guys normally know whether it has been fully charged or not? By opening the case and looking at the light indicator?

You and me both, Wish I'd bought mine 2 years ago.

It's amber when you plug case in right? I checked periodically to see when it went green. When it did go green it still wasn't at 100% though. I just opened case next to phone to see when it was at 100 and then unplugged it. I, probably like you, assumed when it went green it was fully charged. It wasn't.

Out of interest, What's the average time for the case to keep it's charge from 100%.
Fully charged yesterday, down to 80s today. What's the norm, How often do you charge the case?

One way is to see it on your idevice it's connected to as it will pop and show you.

For me I just let it sit on the charger for 3 hours and then I unplug it. It's always at 100% then.

I use the Battery Widget, to see when charged and what's left.

You have to keep opening the case to see when case is charged yeh, even to see the battery widget.

Shouldn’t go from amber to green before 100% should it, when charging the case. And curious how often you charge case.

I read somewhere in another thread that the Airpods case is able to charge to 100% within a hour (sounds about right, only 398mAh battery).

I've charged it twice so far, and yeah the case (with Airpods inside) got to 100% within approximately 1 hour.

I use the airpods pretty often (just about everyday). Realised I have to charge it every 3-4 days, which is quite ok, compared to my iPhone which I charge every night.

I use the Battery Widget, to see when charged and what's left.

I used the Battery Widget too. The thing I didn't like about it is how I'm only able to see the battery of the case when the lid is open.

It's useful when I can see the battery of the Airpods when I put them in my ears and listening to music, but it's harder to see the charge of the case constantly, especially when it is charging. Small matter though, as listed in my reply above - I just unplug it at the 1 hour mark and it's more than ready to go.

EDIT: Charging my Airpods now - discovered that as long as I don't disconnect the airpods from my iPhone, am able to keep track of the battery charge status in Battery Widget. Sweet!

Are you using a faster charger for the case, iPad charger or what it came with? That speeds it up. Mine took longer than an hour with supplied lead and a MBP. Not plugged into wall yet, but will probably use the iPad charger.

Re: your EDIT: Do you mean able to keep track when pods are in case and charging to see status?

When I got mine last week, the icons were instant with pic/percentage on phone screen the second I opened the case. Now it's really delayed.
