AirPods Pause when opening messages?

Hello,

I set up my AirPod pro’s, under notifications, to read incoming messages.

However with this setting on, my music pauses when i simply open the messages app.

Does anyone else have this behavior?

I turned it off and it still pauses when i open the messages app...? Seems like incorrect behavior... or am I missing something?
