Hello!
I don't have any experience in having any AirPods Pro. A friend was selling his former AirPods, and I'm thinking in buying them for a good price. They look cool and functioning. Are they still a good choice in 2024, for 70 dollars? Thank you

For $70, it's a good price, as long as they're in decent condition.
Check the hinge, as that's really the spot most likely to have suffered damage. It should have a little wobble, but not too much.

you can get new tips if theirs are damaged, the silicone ones from Apple hold up pretty well, or there are numerous third party tips, either silicon or memory foam. The foam give you a bit better seal and fit, but do need to be replaced every few months as the foam breaks down.

The seal is important, as it helps to block outside sound. A poor seal will also lead to sound quality loss, since they push against the small volume of air inside your ear to make the noise, If the seal isn't good, then when it pushes against the air some of that pressure is lost

You should also find out if it's the wireless charging case. They updated the case mid cycle, the newer ones support Qi charging.

the second gen did improve the sound quality and the noise cancelling quite a bit over the first. You can find those new for $170-180 (retail $250). but only buy from verified retailers, I've seen many reports of people that have gotten knockoffs on here.

Thank you.
They are in decent condition. I will have new tips in short time, but I'll have that in mind. This charging case does support Qi charging, but it is fine for me to charge it via lightning.

I wasn't in the market searching AirPods. I have offered JBL buds to my wife, but they are not very good, so these AirPods can help her (the JBL would be a back-up).

I'm guessing from your words that at least in the following 2 years they would serve us well, and, at least, they are way better than those JBL!

As a person that updated from first gen airpods pro to second gen (usb-c) a couple of months ago, I'd recommend spending the extra money if it's in your budget. The 2nd gen ones are an order of magnitude better in both sound quality and noise cancelling effectiveness. As for the $70 price for the used ones, BestBuy took my old ones in trade and paid $45 for them in like-new condition. Trade in value in average condition (which is what they tried to give me before I made my case to the store manager) would have been $30.

Thank you! Well, the 2nd gen are at least 250 euros, a lot more than the 65 euros that I'll pay. I hope at least there is a clear improvement over the JBL.

The most important things to check are battery life, age of the product and hardware faults. Battery life and age can probably be indicated by your friend, hardware faults include a noticeable ticking sound when shaking your head, or crackling sounds, things you should check yourself. Any weird noises in general can indicate a problem.

I have owned the first gens since launch which is over four years (November 2019). The buds were replaced under warranty for that ticking sound after two years, they still function great. The case is original and also functions perfectly. Battery life is fine, I'd say 3-4 hours for the buds and up to three complete charges from the case. I have used them daily for the first 3,5 years, now it's a couple of times per week. Durability has been great I'd say.

Thank you. Battery wise, I have tested them for a bit, and only the ANC looks to drain a little.
The other things you mentioned seems to be fair enough, for now. I think we will keep the AirPods. They are way better than those buds.
