I wanted to ask if anyone here could clarify how Find My works with the AirPods Pro 2. (I have the Lightning model.)

With AirTags, they are always on and can be found at any time.

However, with the AirPods Pro 2, they seem to only be connected and "remembered" the last time they were connected to the phone. A couple days ago, I misplaced my AirPods Pro 2 and went to Find My. I found them in my car, but they NEVER CONNECTED to the phone to be found. I held them right next to the phone and it was stating that I needed to go to a different area. Once I opened the case and they connected to the phone via Bluetooth, the phone found them.

So...does that mean that while it has the chip in it like an AirTag, it isn't always on? If that's actually the case, it's a non-starter and I'll need to attach and actual AirTag to the case in order to find them if lost.

Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for responses.

Many users are having continuing problems with the findmy capabilities on the AirPods pro 2s (APP2). They are supposed to act like AirTags (if you turned on findmy in settings when the lid is open or you are using them - if you don't they will operate like pro 1s - i.e. they will only register location when the lid is open or you are using them).

However for many users the APP2s are not staying on findmy and users are finding that the findmy slider in the settings page is being toggled off without any action from the user. When you try to toggle findmy back on you may get a message saying 'Tell the original owner of these airpods to remove them from their apple account...'- it's like the AirPods are registered to another appleid. i encourage you to raise a support call with apple if you are having this problem.

I came here to post the same as the OP, except I have USB-C (bought AirPod Pro 2nd gen this week). Fully charged earbuds and even when I eventually found them and stood next to them - NOTHING. What about all that bragging of being able to find it with that arrow and proximity alert???

I did not get that error though "'Tell the original owner of these airpods to remove them from their apple account...'". It just told me to go somewhere else to try again and that it couldn't connect.

Can you see them in findmy at all?

I got a brand new pair of AirPods Pro 2 USB-C last week and the other day dropped the case at work with them inside. when I looked down, the case was laying there, shut and assumed both were in there. picked it up and went about my business. 10 minutes later, a coworker found my right AirPod on the floor. went to go put it back and realized the left one was missing. looked all over my shop floor for it, under and around stuff.....nothing.

find my says the left one was last seen in the parking lot when I parked for work. thought this was strange, but went looking for it. nowhere to be found, phone won't connect to it. back inside (where is must be) phone and find my won't connect to it at all even when im standing near where it would've dropped. spent almost an hour looking for it, nothing.

ended up giving up and purchased a lightning set on sale and dropped them into my previously used USB-C case and paired them to my phone. still gonna try to search for the other one. really mad the phone won't connect to it even though im sure im close.

Yeah, I noticed this with my USB-C set. I've been caught off guard by FindMy notifications saying my AirPods were last seen at wherever I was about 10 minutes ago. In reality they're in my pocket...

Odd, but hopefully many of these issues can be fixed with a software, or even firmware update.

One plus of the (wired) EarPods—they’re hard to lose (and inexpensive to replace).
