Just picked up a pair of these £50 off in the Amazon Prime day sale. Rare I actually find anything in these sales I actually want to buy and seems a good deal.

I had one question do you need a computer to update their software?

Darn strange when I looked at the order it said £209, I thought what happened to the £179 price. So I cancelled it. I re-ordered them & this time it said £179.
Weirdly you have to select the Prime Day Deal price. You can still purchase at full price if you want. 😂

I picked up a pair myself. Firmware updates are automatic when the headphones are in the case.

First time user of airpods. Picked up a couple of pairs for myself and my wife in the Amazon sale. Trying to get my head around the different modes and sound enhancements. Spent a while looking for the " hearing test " and hearing assistance before realising that it's an upcoming firmware update.
Most I've spent on earpods, previously used Anker soundcore, the difference is quite remarkable.

If you bought Airpod Pro 2s, they work as hearing aids NOW.

1. Set them up to play music and then with the Airpods in your ears and the Airpods connected, go to settings. Above the switch for Airplane Mode you will see your Airpods. Click on it and scroll all the way to the bottom to do an Ear Tip Fit Test to make sure you have a good seal.

2. Download the Mimi app to do your hearing aid test. When Apple make the update available Apple will have their own test. To activate the Airpods as hearing aids you need to go to Settings/Accessibility/Audio & visual/ and switch Headphone accommodations to ON.

3. Click on Audiogram and apply the Audiogram test you just created to the Airpods.

4. Switch Transparency Mode on. Switch Conversation Boost ON.

Have a play with the Airpods by using them and you can tweak the tone, level of amplification into your ears and the level of ambient noise reduction. I found the defaults set at 50% work well for me.

You also need to switch Conversational Awareness on in the menu you went to in Step 1.

You are good to go apart from any tweaks you want to make to volume and tone.

In the Control Centre you will find a new "Ear" symbol has appeared and there are more settings in there.

You will find as you use them, if you are listening to music and start talking, or somebody starts talking to you, the music will fade away while you continue your conversation. When you have finished the music will slowly fade back up.

Your Audiogram will be applied to music/podcasts and phone calls and also, of course, to your hearing.

If you are in a noisy restaurant and struggling to hear properly go to the Ear symbol in Control Centre and switch Live Listen ON. Place your phone in the middle of the restaurant table and the microphones in your iPhone will augment the microphones in the Airpods to help you hear even better.

If you leave your iPhone on the table and go to the bathroom if it's less than 40 feet way from the iPhone you will hear what the people at the table are saying about you...

Very interesting, thanks. Mine are still in the box (from Amazon Prime deal) but I do want to use them to aid my failing hearing.

I've never owned any Airpods before--can you set one ear different from another? I'm almost dead on one side.

Airpods are good for mild to moderate hearing. If you follow my setup in my previous post, when you do the Mimi test it will tell you how good, or bad, your hearing is. Airpods don't have the volume to help people with severe or profound hearing less. I have mild to medium hearing loss in the high and medium frequencies and my left ear is worse than the right. The only way you will find out about your ears is to do the test.

My left ear is the bad one and without the Airpods I can’t hear much at all in my left ear but my right ear compensates and probably has been for a long time.

I would suggest that you get an appointment with your doctor to check you don't have any blockage or other issue with your bad ear. I had my first hearing test at Costco a few months ago while I was getting bored waiting for my wife to finish browsing. Then I bought the Airpods which work well for me and then I booked the doctor. I am finally going on Wednesday.

The answer is that the hearing test creates an Audiogram that is applied the Airpods with compensation for each ear.
Airpods have been able to do this since 2022 but they weren't allowed to sell them as hearing aids without FDA approval. They have it now and the new update will include the hearing tests. Sadly it is included in IOS 18.1, I think, and the latest which is 18.0.1 and it isn’t stable yet so, as the Airpods are already working for me, I will wait until it is stable.

Ha, my left ear is the bad one also. And my issue there is worse than "mild to moderate" in that my discernment sucks. I even had a full head MRI to see if I had any tumor(s) that might be causing the problem.

So the best I'll ever get with a hearing aid of any type is to boost "ambient" sounds which at least gives me a better sense of balance.

Not likely that your problem is just impacted ear wax but maybe you'll get lucky. In any case I wish you well with your upcoming appt.

P.S. My "discernment" comment: the dr. will read into your ears a set of words and you will repeat-back what you've heard. I failed that rather miserably.

So the MRI would have answered any of your questions. I have been syringing my own ears on and off for many years so I know that wax is unlikely to be a problem. In my 30s and 40s I had an abundance of wax but as I've got older, they are nowhere near as bad. My older sister syringes her ears in a very regular basis and clogs her hearing aids up a lot.

For me I just want him to examine my ears to check that there is nothing else going on.

My bad balance was sorted a couple of years ago with insoles as I have flat feet. :) I wish I'd had that sorted years ago!

You have volume controls for voices totally separate from ambient noise cancelling. How much louder they go I don't know, purely because I haven't changed them from 50% which works for me.

If the doctor does the same test on me by blanking my right ear, I doubt I would understand a single word.

Your username is intriguing. Do you own a laser?

Every audio evaluation I (or wife, who has those $6k hearing aids) have ever had includes the comprehension test. They sent me to a specialist and with nothing else in evidence scheduled an MRI. An hour in the machine and they found nothing in my head. Hell, Wife could have told them that! :D

If they boost volume to your left ear and you can Hear but not Understand, then they will be concerned as to the cause (like maybe a tumor pressing against a nerve or some such).

I think that I'm a candidate for a cochlear implant but...at 75 do I really wanna go thru that?

And yes as a geezer I got into Laser videodiscs when they came-out in the late 70s--gave a couple thousand away as DVDs and then Blu-rays and especially digital TV displays rendered them obsolete. I still buy occasional UHD discs but at my age streaming looks and sounds "good enough"...

I had a few people on a Facebook hearing group asking how to set the Airpods up and as the menus are a bit convoluted, rather than type it up each time, I spent 20 minutes putting something together I can copy and paste. I have no doubt that it will change a bit as I find out more about them. For example, already I am using mine in Adaptive Mode which is a mixture of Transparent mode and noise cancellation. You'll find the option in the Airpods menu in No.1 above. Directly under Noise Control.

The main thing to remember to view and change many of the settings is that the Airpods need to be connected to your iPhone and in your ears.

As far as lasers are concerned my hobby is a bit different to yours. I have a laser cutter/engraver and make things out of wood, perspex and various plastics. I originally bought it to engrave book covers which I make for our photo booth customers.

Want. Also don't have a 3d printer, but I have too many hobbies/interests already.

So much to do, so little time...

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I visited Amazon for the Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Generation), but unfortunately, the product is temporarily out of stock. Could you please tell me where else I might find it on sale?

Apple gear rarely has discounts like that. I looked on the 9th October and they were £179.

Maybe Black Friday?
