I'm in the market for some new decent in ear phones, and the above seems to be the obvious choices.
Is there much to choose between them in terms of sound quality now?
Obviously Apple has the advantage of easy pairing with multiple devices - which I will do - but the Sonys are £50 cheaper so not sure Apple is worth the extra just for that!

The Sony was falling out of my ear with the slightest movements. The Airpods stay in. Fit should be the main deciding factor, sound is good on both. The Sony app is a pain tough. Ease of use and connectivity is much better with the Airpods if you have only Apple devices.

I would say that in terms of appearance assessment, The AirPods would look much better. Ask yourself "If the price were the same, which ones would you buy?

Thanks for the comments. I had read actually the Sony ear pieces can be a problem for fit. Aren’t they more like foam than the usual silicon.
Price being equal? Difficult but probably Apple, but at present I can get the Sonys for £168 which is a bigger difference than when I initially looked.
Think the option is pay more but play it safe or take a small risk and hopefully save money - as opposed to also buying the AirPods 6 months later 😁

I sadly just returned my APP2 because they didn't fit well. They would fall out with normal head movement. I have a pair of Technics EAH-AZ40 that fit and sound great but I use them exclusively for my work phone. Was considering the AZ60 for my phone/iPad/MBP mostly because I know the design is a good fit for my ear. Call audio is good as well, which is very important for me.

I have the Sony WH-1000XM4 and love them for static use but not on the go. The call audio quality is poor as well. How is the call audio quality for the WF-1000XM4s?
