According to this Apple support page the firmware version should be 6A301. But my just purchased APP 2 USB-C is at 6A300. Anyone else? Or does anyone know if this is the correct version?

Mine are also 6A300. Which I think might be "wrong", because: they work fine with my iPhone and iPad, but with my Macbook Air M2, they connect as generic headphones. No AirPods icon in the menu bar. No ability to control sound modes. Unlike my APP1. Haven't yet reached out for support on this issue.

Same I thought it should be 301 and the Mac shows the wrong icon

on macOS it shows the AirPods Max icon not AirPods, any ideas why
well on my MacBook Air, it shows a generic headphone icon. Doesn't even have the controls my APP1 does (i.e. I'm not talking about Adaptive, I'm just talking about switching between say transparency and noise cancelling).

Yeah it’s annoying my lightning AirPods Pro 2nd gen work fine, think the usb c ones need an update

Mine don’t have that issue, so it’s not all usb-c APP2s. Maybe re-pairing would fix it?
What version of MacOS are you using? My M2 MacBook Air with Ventura 13.6 does not show the normal AirPods Pro UI when connected. You just get a generic item in the Bluetooth menu and if you go to Bluetooth settings the Model Name is just "Headphones".

OK, to clarify - I was wrong about not having any off/transparency/noise canceling control; it is there, in the top menu: control center > sound > airplay > APP2 USBC down arrow. But I don't get the AirPods-specific icon & controls in top menu (what @jdb8167 calls the "normal AirPods Pro UI") that I get with APP1.
