I asked some questions in a few other sites about the APP2 and BFP. The responses were interesting as some started recommending one or their other in the same thread.

It got me curious about what a poll would look like given those two choices.

Edit... for my particular use, I'm looking for something to use 3-4 times a week at the gym, for like 45 minutes.

I’m curious too, thanks for making this thread. I have APP2 waiting for me to pick up, but the Beats Fit Pro does intrigue me with the more secure fit for workouts, and lower price. I’m assuming the Beats won’t get an upgrade for another year?

Thanks for reminding me to add my needs for them. Who knows, BFP2 could come out tomorrow with the iPad Pro or whatever they say is coming out.

Someone said I can try them on at an Apple Store. I like how the Beats lock into place but I've read about the wings falling off. Several suggested I get snap on wings from Amazon but I don't think I'll like that.

I ended up going with the AirPods Pro2. So far, they seem to be pretty sturdy in the ear. These are my first headphones with ANC and it's amazing! I was dumb and put them on in the car and I could barely hear the engine running. Maybe I was even feeling it. I couldn't hear my horn honk, either. No one else was around and I only tried it for a few minutes. I hope people aren't really driving around like this, it doesn't seem safe.

I just picked up my APP2s yesterday too, they're my first AirPods of any kind, and also my first pair of headphones/earbuds with active noise cancellation. The sound quality blew me away coming from my ~10-year old pair of BlueBuds. I also set up personalised spatial audio, and it works great.

So far I'm a little let down by the ANC though. I have nothing to reference from, but I expected to be cocooned in my own little space, sealed off from the outside world. Currently sitting at a fairly quiet space at school, and I'm still hearing the occasional footsteps, as well as the constant hum of the HVAC with ANC enabled. I did do the Sound Seal test and it says it's a good fit/seal, but I may try the other earbud tip sizes too. Did I expect too much from ANC or can it be improved with better fitment you think?

APP2 is the better choice overall. I found the sound quality to be fairly comparable but the wing tips of BFP hurt my ears after about 45 minutes to an hour of use. ANC seems slightly better in APP2. The real difference maker is actually the case of BFP. It is cheap, flimsy, and unnecessarily bulky to top it off.

This was my first experience with ANC too. I'm very impressed, especially when driving. I could barely hear my horn honk and wind, road, and engine noise were 99.9% gone. I guess with slight variations, it's almost impossible to be 100% silent.

I love my BFP and would compare the sound to APP2 as similar. The ANC though is better on the APP2. The fit is just perfect for activity though with the BFP. juat the best. Luckily i have both and use for different reasons. I do not have fit issues with APP or APP2 but for exercise nothing beats BFP.

I might eventually get the BFP too when the next upgraded version comes out. I don’t trust the fit of my APP2 enough to go running with them or shooting hoops with. In the weight room exercising remains to be seen.

Well, I encourage you to get both and try them. I got both, got also Comply foam tips for APP2 and BFP, tested both during my regulars 8 miles runs and 30 miles bike rides, returned the BFP and got a second pair of APP2s. Looks like I'm one of the few that the APP2s fit is like a custom molded fit as they don't move when in, like not even 1mm from start to end of my 2 or 3 hours runs or MTB bike rides. Not to mention that the APP2s are way more confortable than the BFP by a mile. But I have already read from others the contrary so most definitely you have to try both.

Thanks, I’ll pop into the store this week and see if I can try on a pair of the BFP (especially while my APP2 are still inside the return period). It’s an odd sensation that even though the APP2 haven’t come close to falling out of my ears yet (albeit just with regular use, and on walks), I have almost no trust for them staying in during jogging, basketball shooting around, and gym. I think a lot of that has to do with me coming from BlueBuds which have those little wings that ensure a more secure fit.

I totally get your point as I’m coming from Sony SP800Ns which have wings too but funny enough, the SP800Ns have fallen from my ears a few times while running and the APP2s not even once.

I have both and I prefer the Airpods. Battery life is probably in the favor of the air pods. Beats have good battery life however I think/feel the airpods just seem to last longer. Fit is also very close. The Beats fit a little better than the Airpods however it's almost negligible. This is more a personal preference I guess.

What it really boiled down to for me was the sound. I figured the Beats would have some nice bass to them and I listen to mostly EDM music. However, I found the out-of-the-box settings for the Beats to be subpar IMO. They just lacked that ooomph I was expecting for the low notes. The Airpods sounded better, not quite as good as my Sony XM3's, but still better. They sound much fuller/richer when it comes to music than the Beats do. Both have noise cancellation however I really like the adaptive ANC from the airpods.

Would love to know how the APP2s stay in while shooting around on the basketball court. I wear my BFP for that and they stay in just fine. However, I originally go the BFP for WFH (conference calls) and the wingtips really hurt my ears after a couple of hours. An hour or less they're fine but the wings really do not fit my ear type. Debating selling my BFP for APP2s but am also worried about the APP2s falling out of my ears on the court.

Let us know!

I’ll try them out next time I visit my school’s main campus with the gym facility (I’m at an auxiliary site).

I changed out the default medium ear tips for the one-size smaller and they’re now in there a lot snugger. Will report back after the shoot-around session trial.
