I've just bought some Airpods Pro 2nd gen off ebay. They are sealed and when I checked the serial number visible on the box it says coverage has expired. I thought the APP 2 came out in September 2022 so all should still be in their warranty period? Could these be fake and how do I tell?

By the way, my suspicions were correct. I took them into the Apple Store today and the staff initially said they were fine as the serial number checked out fine and they looked genuine. It did say though that they'd been sent for repair yesterday which obviously they hadn't as I had them on me. When they delved a bit further they found out that that serial number had had 20 or 30 entries on their database. Looked like the fakes had been assigned a valid serial number and also assigned it to other fakes too.
