Greetings. I'm considering a pair of AirPods Pro. But I have two questions:

1. Do they work well enough to take the place of earplugs for sleeping?
2. If I were to fall asleep listening to music that stops after an hour, would they just keep running as long as they're in my ears, or is there a way I could have them turn off until an alarm goes off in the morning.

TIA.

You can do whatever you like with them, they can be used how you want.

However, they are made of hard plastic, not really meant to sleep in (of course 'accidental' sleeping is fine I am sure), so it would be a bit uncomfortable.

Better to get actual earplugs such as SleepBuds. Or just play it on your iPhone?

They will play until the battery runs out, as far as I know, because the skin sensors will always be active. There are apps that turn off music after a certain amount of time (I think iOS can do it natively as well, but not sure).

Thanks. The sleepbuds look great but currently aren’t available. Once they’re out and user reports are ok, I’ll try those.

Everyone is different but I want to hear what is going on around me while sleeping. What if there is a fire?

To answer the OP, they will not "turn off" in that they will maintain the ongoing bluetooth connection to the phone and will continue to run in whatever processing mode you set (noise cancellation, transparency, whatever the hybrid version is). This will drain the battery overnight. If it's not actively playing music I am not sure how long the batteries would last, but it may not be sufficient to get you through a whole night.

For what it's worth, I always wear my AirPods Pro 2 to bed. I sleep on my right side and generally have my right ear on or very close to the pillow. 3-4 hours after going to bed I wake up for a drink of water, briefly think I'm deaf b/c of the noise cancelling and find my right AirPod has fallen out of my ear. I find it, pack them back in the charger and go back to sleep.

The noise cancelling is still active; music is never playing when I briefly wake up because I have a stop music playing timer on my iPhone.

@Jackbequickly That is a concern, b/c the noise cancelling is good enough to completely drown out the sound of my 4 cats rampaging through the house. Occasionally I have gone to bed with one AirPods in, esp if I do not want to miss my wake up alarm to go into dialysis.

Honestly though I would love to be able to set sleep timers that would shut the AirPods off/close their bluetooth connection.

I’ve never bothered to check the battery level when waking up in the middle of the night. Don’t sleep for more than 6 hours, and just make sure to plug the case in when I wake up.

1. I use mine in transparency mode with music playing and I sleep much better.
2. They will not shut off when the music stops

I tried sleeping again with my APP2’s in and fell asleep listening to Maneskin. Initially I had it in transparency mode (thanks to @AL2TEACH for mentioning that in this thread). Had to switch to noise cancelling mode b/c 4 cats were running through the house sounding like racehorses 😅

4.5 hours in, I woke up for a bit of water and found one earbud (always the pillow one) had fallen out. Put em in the case and went back to bed.

15 minutes or so of listening and I’m asleep. I do wonder if my sleeping brain is listening or is in kernel integrity check mode.
