Is Applecare+ worth it for the Airpods Pro? Is it really likely for battery to fail in just 2 years? Thinking maybe it's not worth it if the battery drains in over 2 years since there will probably be Airpods pro 2 by then?

It's not just for battery things. It makes any accidental damage incident significantly cheaper. If you water damage the case or headphones, replacements are only $29.

Given the track record of the batteries in existing AirPods, it seems like after 1-2 years you're going to want to replace them (for $29 with AppleCare+) anyways as the batteries will have significantly degraded. Battery "failure" is not really a common thing at all.

I think AppleCare+ on AirPods Pro is legitimately one of the best deals Apple offers across their entire product line.

I was really on the fence about getting it, but as my employer is covering USD200 of the cost of the headphones, I opted to get it.

Totally agree! Just bought mine with Apple care too...

I think Apple care + for the beats studios wireless is the best price to cost ratio.
$400 headsets for $29

If they come out with an Airpods Pro 2 within the next 2 years...

I usually don't, but did on these figuring if the battery craps out by the end of the second year I'd get them replaced.

Do you think it's likely that you can get the battery replaced before the 2 year Applecare expires? I guess the upside is that if not, that means your battery didn't degrade much, as long as it doesn't drop off a cliff after the 2 years.

Let's just say that *some* people manage to have something *break* on their AirPods right before the AC+ expiration.

I usually don’t get AppleCare+ as the cost of the policy plus one incident fee is not that much less than just repairing the device out of warranty for most Apple devices. Better to save the money and self-insure. But, I have made an exception in the past for my Apple Watch because the AppleCare+ price was so cheap compared to the cost of the watch and I bang my watch into things all the time.

I decided today that AppleCare+ is worth it for the AirPods Pro as well. The price of $29 is low enough that I won’t feel bad if I never end up using it. And the potential upsides are significant if I do. A replacement fee of $29 for both buds vs. $89 per bud without AppleCare+ is probably worth it right there. But free battery service vs $49 without AppleCare is probably the most likely use. The batteries in these things are tiny and will likely degrade significantly over 2 years if used regularly. At the end of the day, $30 is low enough that it’s also just worth the peace of mind to me.

Just keep in mind (emphasis added by me): "If your battery has a manufacturing defect and it's covered by our warranty, AppleCare+, or consumer law, we'll service it for no additional cost."

I am not so certain Apple will simply replace degraded batteries for free with AppleCare+

And if you sell them before your two years is up you can always ask for a refund of the unused portion of the apple care+.

Wait so you can ask for a refund of Apple Care if you don’t use it as long as it is at least a day before expiration?

Question. A family member just ordered these for christmas for my sister, but forgot to add AC+. They deliver very late December. Is the 60 days after purchase when you ordered them, or when they deliver ?

likely when they deliver.

The battery doesn’t need to fail/crapout to utilize AC+.

The battery just needs to retain below 80% of new/original capacity after fully charging to have the AirPod replaced, the way Apple has written AC+.

This is easy enough to find on iPhones under battery health in settings, but I guess you will need to gauge playback times on your Airpods to get an idea of when you are possibly in range to have Apple check their capacity.

Doubtful Apple can check. Especially over the phone. Likely they will just swap them out

if you aren't a Costco member sure

if you are, I've been told they have an indefinite return policy so no
