I'm posting this on Monday December 2nd 2019.

Wanted to order a set of AirPods Pro today. Every place I've looked online they seem to be unavailable (sold out at Best Buy) or 4-10 weeks backordered (Apple or B & H).

What are the chances I could pick some up at a local Apple Store? (Yes, I could call, but that would take probably 45 minutes on hold. I'll probably run by the local store at some point if anyone has any knowledge that it wouldn't be a totally wasted trip)

You can go on line and see if your local Apple store has any inventory. My guess would be no since most Apple stores are sold out.

Try Apple stores. That’s where I got mine soon after they were announced and they had plenty in stock

For AirPods you always order on Day 1. I just waited for a day and it’s not gonna be cheaper in the first few months.... I guess you may check your local store for walk in availability.. but I’m not too optimistic.

Gotta make it quick because they can sell out pretty fast. Apple Store near me received over 75 of them yesterday and today afternoon they were out of stock.

And people wonder why the price is "so high". These are like printing money for Apple, they could have charged $325 and the sell through rate would be the same.

What I really want to see is a balanced armature/dynamic hybrid, like my Sony XBA-Z5's, with a metal enclosure, replaceable batteries, flat signature, and proper dual-density, interchangeable IEM tips.

That would be a lot more "Pro". (It would also probably push $500-700/pair.)

Has anybody ordered a pair with 4 weeks wait time and ended up having them shipped earlier? I'm hoping to get a pair before Christmas so I'm thinking about putting an order in online for delivery (Jan 4th delivery date) and then keeping an eye on stock in my local Apple stores to see if any become available and then cancel my delivery order.

Keep checking local store stock. They're very frequently available in at least one store in the Boston area. I've bought two pairs in the last week without really trying.
