Hi!
I have a quick question regarding the AirPods Pro and call quality outdoors.
When I use my 2nd generation AirPods, I usually get no complaints about the background noises (such as passing cars, wind, etc). I’m being told that they can hear cars passing, but still my voice is quite loud and clear. But as soon as I switch to the APPs, I get lots of complaints that the person on the other end, can hardly hear me above the background noise. People I talk with on the phone, say that it sounds like cars and buses are driving right into my ear, and that it’s almost as if the volume of my voice is lowered and all the external sounds are being amplified. If I walk on a graveled road, I almost have to take out my pros so they can hear what I’m saying, as the noise gets too loud and drowns out my voice. Do I have a faulty pair of APPs, or have other people made the same experience?

Sorry for bumping this thread after only a few hours, but I’m able to buy a new pair of APPs at a good price today, so I would love to have your opinions on my “issue”. No need for me to buy a second pair if this is normal behavior for the APPs (but judging from reviews, these are supposed to be just as good as, or even better than, the regular AirPods).

Thanks for your reply! I live in a quiet part of Norway, where you can count the number of cars and buses you meet on a 30 minute walk. But every time a car passes several feet away, I always get questions like «what happened? Are you in the middle of the road?» because the noise is appearantly that strong. When it has been raining, and the concrete is wet, I’m being asked to take out my AirPods and just speak directly into the phone, because they can’t hear a word I’m saying... the same goes for when I’m riding the bus. The person on the other end seems to hear the other passengers and the noise of the bus better than they hear me. I assume that if that is normal behavior for the APPs, it would have been mentioned somewhere, but all I could find were positive reviews of the call quality. But, knowing that reviews can be biased or paid, I wanted the opinions of real life users before buying a second set.

FWIW, I had the worst problem with my first set of AirPods Pro. Exactly as you describe, and an awful rattle. I received complaints when using the APP for calls all the time. Switching to older AirPods, no problem. I also had a rough time getting the APP to do "hey Siri" correctly - constantly misunderstanding commands. In the end I had them replaced through warrantee, and the new ones are performing without issue on calls, rattling, and with "hey Siri."

The problem may be either in the quality of the headphones or in the phone. Have you tried restarting your phone and then using headphones?

Thanks for the replies so far.. seems like I might have a faulty pair, as I suspected.. as for troubleshooting, I have of course restarted the phone, hard reset it, re-paired the APPs to the phone, installed the latest firmware, tried all the different silicone tips and even tried the blu-tac and sucking methods described for fixing the NC-problems some people have been facing. None of these things have fixed my microphone issue. So, I might have to get myself a new set..

You can contact the store where you bought the headphones and describe the problem to them. Most likely it is damaged goods
