My AirPods Pro have a crackling sound when I clear my throat, and even when I am, chewing gum. This is ridiculous, a $249 AirPods that are really annoying. I see that other people are having the same issue. Does any one know what is the fix to this?

Oh, this is annoying for sure.

Does this happen to you only when you have noise canceling turned on or also with the feature disabled?

I don’t have the Pros yet but in my previous experience with noise canceling devices they sometimes struggle to predict the frequency that they need to block, depends a bit on the kind of noise that’s going on.

I had this issue on my left earphone and the solution was to get it replaced. Best Buy is an AASP and I had it replaced there in store just before they made their changes due to the coronavirus.

Once you get a replacement unit I would recommend not clearing your throat with it in as I think the driver is easily damaged. Ridiculous, I know, but replacements are now a mail-only service.

Yup I'm chatting with Apple Support right now about this issue, my right AirPod Pro starting doing it about two weeks ago, haven't had time to research it until today.
But I was already familiar with this problem as my friend had to get one of his replaced too for the same thing.

(30 mins later) Ok, they're sending me a new Right AirPod Pro. They put a temporary charge on my credit card then when I return the broken one, refund the charge.

That's crazy if you can't wear these and cough though...I have Bose QC 35 II's and never had an issue, obviously those aren't in-ears, but still. I will baby the new AirPod.

I did the same today and they are also sending me a new one. Post an update when you get yours in!

Got my replacement. At first I was having trouble pairing it with the existing Left AirPod, but once I charged them for about 15 minutes, then it worked no problem. Distortion is gone. Apple support remains excellent. :)

Mine shows up today via FedEx.

I wonder what the issue is exactly and how widespread this is? Hopefully it’s not a design flaw that will return after a few months. Time will tell!

Very glad to have noticed this discussion here - I have the same problem (crackling) with my AirPod Pros. Had not thought to contact Apple and request replacement. Doing so now!
