Today I received my Airpods pro and immediately unpacked it for testing. I have read that people suffer from a cracking sound with the 2 modes. When I select the transparent mode I immediately hear a kind of strong wind / falling rain sound (like ssshhhh) and in the noise reduction mode I hear the same sound in the background but much quieter and when I switch to no mode after that you really hear that soft sound in the background of the noise reduction mode is gone and it's like having normal earphones. At first I thought that was my imagination but apparently not.

Someone who has this too? Does this fall under that cracking problem that many people have or is it just normal? When I just listen to music I don't hear any strange cracking sounds which some people do have. When i touch my Airpods and move them more in my ear or if i just touch the microphone part on the Airpod it starts to crack a little bit when in one of the 2 modes.

Will updating to the latest firmware help since it's still on the May 2020 update when I unpacked it? If this falls under that cracking problem.

Tomorrow I will go to the Apple Store to test a few Airpods there if possible. See if it matches mine.

Edit: I updated my iPhone and Airpods but it is still the same.

I’ve been through 3 pairs of AirPod Pros and they all exhibit that ‘wind’ sound in both the transparency and noise reduction modes. Judging from my experience, I think it’s normal.

Thanks for your answer. Sone people told me that is not normal and that they don’t hear that.

And what about that little crack noise when touching them on the microphone?
