I’ve been receiving these false notifications since I purchased the AirPod Pros last year. I have the latest OS, latest firmware, disconnected/reconnected the device and I still receive this idiotic message. As I have read elsewhere, it’s of no consequence that both devices are in my coat pocket when this notification pops up. I’m sure this has something to do with the location services or some other privacy setting. Perhaps, it has something to do with the express VPN app running. However, I don’t have express VPN running constantly so the OS should update the location of the AirPods. I don’t recall having this issue with the standard Apple AirPods. One of the things I’ve noticed, is that it will pull from a location I visited a day earlier. I guess I will end with a bit of a rant, as the iOS version numbers grow, so does the instability. I wish Apple would spend more time focusing on the technical aspects rather than increasing the number of emojis or some other irrelevant feature.

I disabled the Xpress VPN app and the OS still notifies me that the AirPods are left behind… I’m holding them in my hand…

I have AP3 but experience the same issue. No VPN in use. The issue occurs very infrequently - maybe 2 times over the past month. The last time I tried to troubleshoot it a bit more but couldn’t come to any “simple” answers: neither my iPhone nor AP3 had died recently, nor reset, nor disconnected from each other in any way, geographically or otherwise. I had not made any Bluetooth nor H1 connections with any other devices, either device, in several days. I was traveling and doing a lot of walking that day. I had not used the headphones in at least 24 hours, but again >80% battery on each.

I was truly mystified. Maybe there was a recent firmware update to AP’s?

I don’t have a VPN running but get this… I get this notification while the AirPod Pros are in my ear, connected to my phone and actively listening to music through them. This happens every time I leave a location that I’ve been at for at least a few minutes and been going on since they added AirPod Pros to the Find My network. It’s comical how bad Apple software has gotten over the years. Find My has been a complete joke (for me) since iOS 15. Live locations stopped working with 15.1 and been broken since.

Thank you all for your input. After My first post, I left my home to go to the gym. While I was walking into the gym, I was notified that I left my AirPods at my house. One small detail, I had them in my hand! With the peculiar NFC notifications (see my earlier post) and the continual “forgot device” nonsense, I’ve become very tired of this product (iPhone 13).

Same. Have been getting this of late as well, with the AirPods right in my front shirt pocket.

Happens to me with my Airpod Max and the Airpod Pros... gets very annoying and causes a little anxiety with me. Getting off work I got the notification and actually thought I lost them. They were in my pants pocket.

Mine normally pops up on CarPlay after I've left the office. It makes me double check my pocket. I also get them for my iPad Pro and it has a cellular connection.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I’ve been getting these annoying notifications for months and it’s starting to become ridiculous. Apple has to know this is a thing right? I love my AirPods Pro, but these stupid false notifications are getting on my nerves! At this point I might as well turn off Find My since I can’t seem to get a legitimate alert.

Same here… Find My has been a mess for me starting with iOS 15.1. The problem is, now I’m ignoring the notification so if I really leave them behind, it’s like the AirPod that cried wolf. You’re not alone.

I’ve noticed that Apple generally won’t do a damn thing unless the mainstream tech media reports on issues. I’m sure their list of bugs is longer than a CVS receipt and this is probably way at the bottom by the coupons.

Apple is too busy building its essential emoji library. They don’t have time to address NFC and the malfunctioning Separation Alerts.

I have iPhone 12 Pro iOS 15.6. Same problem going for a walk in my neighborhood. Issue began after updating to iOS 15.5. Only alert was for AirPods Pro. Turned FindMy and Location Services on / off several times, restarted with no change. Now running iOS 15.6. AirPods Pro Separation alert stopped but now it says I left my M1 MacBook Air behind. Apple needs to dial back on "feature enhancements", emojis, etc and focus on quality control and refinement of existing versions.

Happens to me every day when I leave work. The notification pops up in the same place every day.
