Just messing around with the Airpods Pro last night.

Tested Live Listen with an iPhone 11 Max Pro. The microphone is super sensitive.

Pressed the iPhone microphone(bottom holes on volume buttons side) to my heart and there you have it. A somewhat electronic stethoscope. In a quiet room you can hear it somewhat decently but nowhere near loud enough to really diagnose your beat.

Ya. I was bored. ?

What is live listen ?

It is an option in control center to use your iPhone as an external microphone and listen through your AirPods.

The microphone in the phone is EXTREMELY sensitive.
I was in my kitchen and turned it on. Was ever so lightly tapping a knife on a cutting board and the phone was 8 feet away. I could hear the knife better through the Airpoda whereas if I took the AirPods out of my ears I almost couldn’t hear the light taps with my ears.

No, Transparency is a feature of the Airpods Pro (and I believe more recent Beats headphones) where the earphones' microphones amplify the sounds around you to combat their muffling effect. This allows you to more easily converse with others, hear announcements or just be more aware of your surroundings.

Live listen is an iOS feature that enables the microphones on your iPhone to transmit anything the phone hears to, for example, your Airpods. It's intended as an aid for people who have trouble hearing or as a makeshift baby monitor.

Really cool. I never knew this feature existed.

It really is.

But...it is going to get some people into some trouble I gotta assume. One good thing, or bad depending how you look at it, is that there doesn't seem to be a way to record what the microphone picks up through Live Listen.

Of course, if someone really wanted to eavesdrop and record audio, Voice Memo is available but I'm not sure the microphone is as sensitive through VM.

Any experience on using Live Listen with Airpods Pro to better understand conversations in a loud environment (say: a cafeteria)? That would be a real killer feature!

This was the intended purpose of this feature. It’s for people with hearing loss that can’t pick up conversational sounds in a loud environment.
